Shona Callahan's profile

Bank of America, Adelanto, CA branch LEED Platinum

This bank was part of a pilot to meet the BofA iniative of building all of our banking centers with a level of LEED Certifcation. At this site, I and Gensler architects set out to meet LEED Platium. We met our goal and inturn lead the way for the banks LEED Volume Certification for years to come.

Details of this banking center:
Diversion of 75 percent of construction waste from landfills
Pervious pavers which allow rainwater to fi lter naturally through the ground
Photovoltaic panels on the roof allow for day lighting throughout the space
Drip irrigation systems to minimize water demand
20 percent of construction materials were from recycled materials, including 100 percent insulation made of old blue jeans, and counters made of wheat byproducts, including kernels and chaff.

These features, among others, resulted in a facility that exceeds California Title- 24 energy requirements by over 60 percent and exceeds baseline water effi ciency by almost 40 percent. The success of the pilot program led the bank’s CEO to announce that all new banking centers will pursue LEED certifi cation.

The Adelanto site continues to serve as a model for future construction.
